Hi Guys

We have just completed a POC on octopus and buys with migration to full production environment and need to understand the limitations using SQL Express vs SQL Express.
At this stage we looking at using around 100 tentacles is there a point where its suggested to move to SQL Server vs SQL Express ?

Additional question : What is the deciding factor in Express vs Server. The amount of tentacles or the amount of applications being deployed.
    What takes precedence ?

    Hi Carl,

    Thanks for getting in touch,

Based on the information provided in your query, it's difficult to recommend a particular SQL version over the other.

Since SQL Express instance is limited to 10GB in size, this is going to influenced by the number of associated Projects you intend to have.

The other limitation from SQL Express comes in the form of the maximum number of cores that can be utilized since you've highlighted that you intend to have around 100 Tentacles this is also a factor.

There isn't really a "one size fits all" approach to sizing your Octopus Server. Since you mentioned that you have just completed your POC, this leads me to believe you are new Users to Octopus Server, as a result, you should begin with the minimum requirements then monitor the performance of your server. Once your server is up and running you should consider maintenance and scaling as required.

In response to your most recent query for determining the precedential factor, again this ultimately is determined by the number of Tentacles vs Applications being deployed.

    I hope this helps!

If you require any further assistance moving forward, please let me know :)

    Kind Regards,
