I need to run a scrip and in the middle of the script I need to restart the machine and after the machine comes up I need to continue the scrip from where It was left. Is it possible using Octopus Server?

    Hi Usman,

    Thanks for getting in touch,

It's definitely possible within Octopus to accomplish this using Machine Policies

Machine policies are groups of configurable settings that can be applied to Tentacle and SSH endpoints to modify their deployment behavior.

For instance, you can configure this to ignore machines that become unavailable during health checks but are still contactable.

I'd recommend having a read through the aforementioned documentation to familiarize yourself with the feature.

If I've misunderstood in any way or you require further assistance please let me know :)

    Kind Regards,

    Reece

    Thanks Reece,

I think I was not clear about my query.

I would like a run a script on a machine.

The script installs windows updates on a machine, let’s assume there are 4 Windows KBs to be installed, the first KB needs to reboot the machine, after the reboot the script continues where it left for a reboot and installs the second KB the third KB and the fourth KB then reboots the machine and then show the task as completed in Octopus.

I do not think the article that you sent convers this scenario, Let me know If you need to know anything more.

    Hi Usman,

Thanks for getting back to me regarding this,

Apologies, I misunderstood your original request.

At this stage, there doesn't exist an option to continue a script post-restart.

This does, however, sound like a great idea to make Octopus even better!

I've found an existing User Voice for this enhancement, feel free to leave your vote and thoughts it would be valuable to get your insight on how this would help your deployment process, the User Voice area is our main avenue when considering new features/enhancements like this based on community support.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused as a result.

If you require any further assistance or clarification moving forward please let me know :)

    Kind Regards,

    Reece
